Verizon Ranked in Top 100 U.S. Corporate Citizens
Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) magazine announced on March 6 that Verizon made its 100 Best Corporate Citizens List this year as number 32. Thanks to the commitment of the Verizon Foundation, the company won its highest CRO score in the category of philanthropy, ranking ninth.
Since 2000, the Verizon Foundation has dedicated technical, financial and human resources to support education and literacy, and health and safety. Last year, the foundation donated $68 million in grants to 15,630 nonprofits in the U.S. and abroad and participated in more than 608,000 hours of community service.
For the past 10 years, CRO has published this ranking of publicly listed U.S. companies that excel at serving a variety of stakeholders. This year, CRO evaluated 1,000 companies, ranking their performance in seven key areas: philanthropy, employee relations, environment, climate change, human rights, finance and corporate governance. Verizon is the only telecommunications company to make the list.
"The success of corporations today is judged by more than financial accomplishments," said Verizon Foundation President Patrick Gaston. "We understand that our role at the foundation is to connect Verizon's strengths in the areas of technology, human expertise and financial value with critical social issues that affect our employees, customers and communities."
